How Do I Search for an Inmate in Travis County?

How Soon Can Someone Be Released from Travis County Jail?

When someone is arrested and taken to the Travis County jail, they must be “booked” into the jail and then sit for a hearing before they can be released. The terms of their release will be determined at the hearing. Typically, these terms include making a financial guarantee that they will show up for subsequent court dates and meeting any other requirements. They can post a release promise on their own or through a certain companies. Once they have done this they can be released. More information on the booking process can be found here. How Does an Inmate Contact Their Attorney?

Inmates at Travis County jail get free, local calls to contact their attorneys. Calls cannot be longer than 20 minutes. These calls are not recorded. Attorneys can also leave messages at (512) 854-4666 to have their clients call them.

Attorneys can also use video visitations to talk with inmates.

Are Face-to-Face Visits Allowed?

Find more information on face-to-face visits here. Face-to-face visits must be scheduled in advance, at least 24-hours ahead of time. Remember to check in 30 minutes before your scheduled visit. Late visitors may have their visits canceled. Keep in mind, the Travis County jail has a specific dress code for visitors. Visits can be scheduled here.

Inmates must also be qualified to receive face-to-face visits. The qualifications include:

  • • Assigned to minimum, medium, or maximum housing
  • • No disciplinary or lockdown status
  • • No current protective order with the visitor

 

How Do I Contact an Inmate Using Video Visitation?

Travis County jail provides video conferencing in two different ways – on-site and from home. On-site video visits are free, while at-home visits are paid for by the visitor. On-site video visits are available while the visitation center is open. At-home visits are available seven days a week even on holidays.

Generally, inmates must meet the same requirements for video as they do for in-person visits. However, if an inmate is prohibited from in-person visits due to reasons other than disciplinary or lockdown status or current protective orders, they may be able to use video visits with approval.

How Do I Call an Inmate?

There are a few ways to contact an inmate by phone:

  • • Inmates can make “collect calls “to landlines limited to 20 minutes where the receiver pays for the call.
  • • Inmates can make “collect calls” to cell phones limited to 15 minutes.
  • • Inmates can use phone cards purchased from the commissary. These can also be used after release.

How Can I Pick Up an Inmate’s Personal Items?

Personal property can be picked up Monday-Friday between 8am – 5pm at the Travis County Jail. Property can be picked up from the Travis County Correctional Complex Mondays from 8am-5pm or Tuesday-Saturday between 7:30am-8:30pm.

If property must be picked up in order for an inmate to be released, it can be scheduled at any time.

To pick up property, you must show a valid photo ID, and the inmate must designate you as authorized to pick up their property.

How Do I Deliver an Inmate’s Medication?

Medications cannot be delivered by unauthorized persons. Each inmate will go through a screening process where they disclose any required medications. Medications are provided by the jail’s medical department. Inmates can also purchase over-the-counter medications at the commissary.
